Santa Giusta: basilica and lagoon
One of the most representative Romanesque basilicas in Sardinia, beside a protected lagoon.
About the place
The basilica was built in sandstone in the first half of the 12th century by Pisan and local masons. It has three aisles and a crypt with groin vaults, where the columns and capitals were reused from Tharros, Neapolis and Othoca.
Next to it lies the Santa Giusta lagoon, about 8 km2 of brackish water protected as a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area.
