Oristano and the Sinis · Village

Massama

A small farming village just north of Oristano, quiet and away from the traffic of the centre.

About the place

Massama became part of the municipality of Oristano in 1927. Its name may recall a stopping place on the old Roman road between Tharros and Forum Traiani, though that is only a theory.

It is where Casa Katia and Casa Amelia are: calm streets, with Oristano, the lagoon and the Sinis coast all a short drive away.

What to do

  • Stroll through the village streets
  • See the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta from outside
  • Look for the Oratory of the Souls (San Nicola), a small medieval building on a Greek-cross plan

Distances

  • From Oristano 0 km · 0 min
  • From Torre dei Corsari 67 km · 76 min

by car. In high season, journeys take longer.

Practical tips

  • The oratory has been reported closed, so think of it as a stop to see from outside.
  • The village is reached from the SS131, exit Oristano nord.
